The Meaning of the Horse Symbol
The meaning of the horse symbol was to signify mobility, stamina, strength and power. It was so revered by some tribes that the horse also represented loyalty, love and devotion. he horse symbol was also a sign of mutual respect. Its hoof print signifies the direction taken by riders. The Horse Symbol is a Pictogram
The Horse symbol is in a fact a pictogram. A pictogram, also called a pictograph, conveys a story and meaning through pictures that signify and resemble the shapes of physical objects or people. An Ideagram is another form of pictogram which conveys complex ideas, feelings and emotions. A pictogram, such as the one recognised as a Horse symbol, is a therefore a form of writing which uses representational, pictorial drawings to tell a story.

The Horse
The Native Indian Horse was a great wonder to the Native American Indians when it was first introduced by the Europeans in the 1500's and 1600's. The horse was at first referred to by the Native American Indians as the “God Dog” or “Big Dog”. The religion of Native Americans was dominated by rituals and belief in a spiritual connection with nature and these beliefs were reflected in the various symbols and pictograms they used such as the Horse symbol.
